How long was your recovery following hardware removal? I am two weeks post surgery and still very swollen.
Definitely check out the other videos on my channel, I have several videos on hardware removal. And don't forget to ice!
I had a trimalleolar ankle break a few years back. Broke both sides of the Tibia at the ankle tore the inside ligament. Surgery once. No mandatory therapy actually, did it myself. Had the hardware out and everything finished fine. They say you'll never feel normal and things still feel a little different but not much. Everything came back including full balance and range for martial arts. Have faith..you never know.
This video was fantastic! I had a trimal fracture on feb 25. Surg was feb 29 this year. I am 7 PT appts in and no boot but using crutches. I find my surgeon to be rather unrealistic in how fast I'm going to be walking 100%. My PT is a lot this gal as far as expectations go. She doesn't want me limping... but i try to do too much bc that's me - im impatient. But pain has a way of making me slow down. I'm a bit like my surgeon i guess as far as expectation. But i loved this video and the reminder that a new normal is just another day away from being able to be my very active self again. Thank you!!
Oh yay I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Good luck on your healing journey...and be patient with yourself :)
2 years post first surgery, and second surgery is coming up on 2 years in a few days. I agree, I will never feel normal again. I really appreciated this video! Thank you
Yeah, it's a reality a lot of us face unfortunately!
Hello were u implanted with titanium?
Thanks so much for your reply.
Did everyone have a hard time finding a surgeon willing to take out your hardware?
Have a good recovery. I had my fibula surgery about 14 yrs ago I want it out because it’s restricting my workouts, stretching. How long was your hardware in for? Oh by the way if I didn’t stretch I would limp on that foot.
My hardware was in about 9 months before I took half of it out.
I get to take mine after ORIF in 2 more weeks and a few days. Only I'm getting a cane instead of crutches because I always fall on crutches lol.
Nice sharing this video walk with the splint
Nice sharing ankle surgery last February this year but from now two walk 2 churches
This give me hope❤. I get my cast off tomorrow after having it on for 8 weeks. I had a lisfranc fracture and I am so excited to learn to walk again. You take simple things like walking for granted
omg good luck with your first steps!
Can you run?
not comfortably
This video 📹 is v helpful I am on my 8th week and I start walking on my crocks inside home And outside I am still using long fracture boots provided by my doctor
🙏🏼🙏🏼 i broke my ankle had a shattered complex fracture i had surgery and got 4 plates with many screws.. The doctor said i may never run again ... Plz pray for me
Did it help
I broke my right ankle 8 months ago. I can walk to the pub again. I can't use the injured leg going up to my house on the second floor. My ankle always feels cold and itches and makes clicking feelins. The link on the inside of my leg doesnt allow me to turn my right foot inward. I can not step off the curb crossing the street. I fear gettijg on and off the city bus. I bought soje military boots but cant put my foot in them now. My bank is 5 blocks away ajd still walking that distancecrequres a next day to not have much walking. My favorte thing is that my back of my knee stopped freaking out. And I can use a blanket now. I still have issues gettijg on ajd off the bar stool. And getting out of ky brothers truck is very hard so I go very slow.
Sorry to hear this..i feel the same cant walk like i use to...lost self confidence to...ankle feels cold in mornings, i have to very extra careful when its raining outside to.
@@RSH352 I feel colder between my foot and ankle. I'm in Wisconsin so Winter and bus rides are hard now
Had my metalwork out yesterday. Already pain free from waking up from surgery and no nerve block given, l checked 😂🤣 Today l am walking about a little stiff but no pain, no crutches and very little bruising or swelling. Gone is the constant ache and burning l had from the screws n metal plate. Wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. Although l hope l never have too. No brainer for me. Not taken a single painkiller either
yesss!! amazing!!!
Thanks a lot for your video, it’s very helpful. I just had surgery in my right ankle 2 weeks ago and can’t wait to start walking again. Blessings!!
Is it possible to correct ankle fracture after 1 year from broken ...???
Yo empece a caminar con la bota Wolker y sin muletas a los 15 dias
Felicidades :)
how long did it take for the holes in bone to fill in completely
I think they say something like 4-6 weeks? Could be wrong.
How long took you before you started walking because I'm in my secondary months and had reconstruction flat feet surgery repair done on my left ankle and being very difficult for me walk with boots
I started weight bearing at 7.5 weeks post op
I agree with everything , but I mix it up, I get used to being full weight bearing and then I focus on form with my crutch, it’s kind of like doing strength training in the gym and working on kicking technique if you were a footballer. I’m not an expert but I kind of look at it like being an athlete, I need form and strength.
love it!
4 weeks since orif surgery. 3.5 weeks until I hopefully can be weight bearing. This gives me hope
you got this!
I have broken Ankle Ankle is still broken i never went to hospital This was took one year but Amazingly and i am back to normal normal Still when i touch my ankle i feel one bone is loose But trust me no pain nothing
You may be wearing out your bone wrongly see an orthopedic surgeon and God be with you
I am just starting to weight bear in a boot
3weeks ago I got foot surgery with 3 metal inside, still I cannot walk my fracture foot still walking with my walking frame
Thank you so much for your videos and the community you’ve brought together, it’s nice to not feel alone. I’m a year and 4 months out from a fibula fracture. I had surgery with a plate and 12 screws and have accepted this is my NEW normal. Yes it can be disheartening but to know I can walk/ run again after all the trauma and losing your independence, makes one realize we can overcome intense struggles. I get sad bc there’s a lot of things I probably won’t ever try due to the fear of breaking it again but I guess I’m just more cautious now.
you're so welcome, I"m glad you're part of it! yep, it's just the new normal - you'll definitely find your way back to most things, and the more consistently you take care of yourself and your ankle the better!
I'm presently going through my ankle injuries....It is such an emotional journey..Pain physical and emotional...I'm hoping for the best
And broke my ankle last Saturday. It is a terrible pain but I refuse to have surgery. I wanted to heal on its own
I broke fibia and tibia weber c 4 weeks ago I didn't have surgery till two weeks later and yesterday had suchers out x-rays and new pot back in 3 weeks for boot hopefully
Can you wear heels again
I can! but i don't :)
I wanted to know the same thing! No one really talks about it.
Is it worth it? Has there been improvement after getting the hardware taken out?
It was for me! My Hardware Removal video many years later is here: ua-cam.com/video/kXlEPzRPTe4/v-deo.htmlsi=bBK33e6G7TzhqhuU
Hello! I haven’t seen this whole video but I watched quite a bit of your other ones. I’ve never had an ankle surgery but I’ve had many injuries/inflammations/etc on my right ankle (peroneal tendon subluxation, inflammation, stretched out tendons, etc.) It’s been two years since I haven’t been able to even walk normally without pain and stiffness and swelling. The doctors keep telling me there’s nothing wrong on the scans and I should simply do physiotherapy but physiotherapy doesn’t seem to be helping. I’ve seen many doctors and they keep saying the same but my ankle doesn’t get better. I’m very scared and very lost. How long did your swelling continue for?
Swelling was on and off for the first 18ish months. Have you tried massage? Are you still icing? Acupuncture?
I broke my fibula and was unaware and due to lack of funds struggled with it for 3 years which compacted and destroyed my ankle joint. After an extensive reconstruction surgery they fused the majority of my foot along with my ankle. It's kinda crazy how not being able to stand on it fully for 3 months has severely affected the simplest of movements Thank you for your video as I continue my road to recover what I can. Much love.
You got this. One day - and step - at a time!
I broke my fibula on the 7th Jan and have a hardwares surgery next week on Tuesday. I am miserable and I feel stupid for being so clumsy with my fall. This is my first break. I searched ‘depression after broken ankle’ to see if there’s anyone else who feels like this.
I had a trimalleolar fracture in December and had surgery 3 weeks ago …. I felt the same like you initially , totally helpless and in utter shock… but I have noticed that the time passes quickly ( 4 weeks have passed since I had the fracture… which still seems like it happened yesterday) and before you know you will be on the way to recovery
I broke my fibula also a week ago. I feel the same way and I have been crying everyday since it happened. May I ask how you are doing now?
Thank goodness I found you and these videos. It gives me hope and your injured leg has such good muscle definition. I had a trillmelleor fracture this past June. I still use a walker in the AM. No one told me a fall over my dog would be a lifelong process. I will use all your advice and check in in 10yrs and hope to be where your at sis.
I'll be cheering you on, stay in touch!
I can’t wait to get to this phase, they actually took me off of the crutches bc I fell so now I use a scooter
I broke both bones in my right leg near the Ankle, in May of this year. I am required by my PT to pit more pressure on the leg like walking on it. With the ExternalFixator still in my leg its real hard. What do you suggest?
I'd suggest you do what your PT is telling you to do, or you could always get second and third opinions!
It's quite encouraging. I've have operation last month. Your video let me have hope and schedule for recovery. Thanks a lot.
you got this!
3 years later i still dont feel normal
......Considering I now have two metal plates, yeah it probably won't.....
Thank you for making these videos. I recently broke my fibula. I am 37 years old and my first broken bone. I am 2 weeks post surgery. It has been very difficult and you have helped me by making these videos
ugh I'm so sorry. glad you're here tho :)
I’m also 37 with my first broken ankle. Less than a week post op. I hope you’re feeling better ! The pain is unreal
I broke my ankle with plates and screws...been 6months...done good but yh it doesnt feel the same anymore
You are lucky its not an ankle😢
I’m also 37 as well. Is there something happening in the stars or something, so many if my old high school mates have injuries as well. It’s been absolutely miserable - I can’t stop crying.
I enjoyed the convo but i wish he would have talked about post traumatic arthritis
I’m glad I found this channel. I’ll likely check out your Instagram group as well. Had my ankle surgery at the start of June. Was weight bearing by August but had no strength in my leg so was on crutches an extra month. Then graduated to came, fell while riding the bus on the injured foot and while I didn’t break anything the x-rays could pick up, I heard a bunch of cracking when I fell forward on my injured foot. Now I’m six months out from surgery and I can walk pretty well but my foot can’t bend much. It feels like the bridge at the top of my foot is locked at a certain point and when I rest my foot it’s like the bones sink into the floor and spread out in my foot. It’s good to be back to some mobility though and lite exercising. Looking forward to some day getting my ankle back as I was really athletic up until the injury. Guess that was long winded but thank you again for putting these videos out.
aw man what a journey! it sounds like you could benefit from lots of massage and some good foot strengthening. have you tried massage for the stiffness? and yes! come find us on instagram!!
Post Op 8 week, this is the 2nd day for my partial weight bearing with 2 crutches. Thanks for encouraging video!!
You got this!!
👍 'Promo SM'
Need to ask you do you ever get swellings every now then in all this 8years
Nah, I don't swell anymore.
@@brokenankleclub after a certain duration it stops swelling
@@michelleongoro5495when its stop swelling? And when you walk normally?
